Sealer and finish systems: what each maker publishes

Documents read on . Statements are attributed to the publisher and dated as printed.

This guide lists, maker by maker, the sealer and finish sequences each maker prints for its own products. It reports what each document says and nothing more. It does not compare makers and does not recommend a system.

Where one maker's own documents give different statements, both texts are printed with their dates and marked unresolved.

Bona

Bona states, in Bona DriFast Sport Seal Technical Data Sheet, Rev 04/20/2018, accessed 2026-10-04: the DriFast Sport Seal sequence is a four-coat system: one coat of DriFast Sport Seal, one coat of a Bona Sport finish, CourtLines or SuperSport Paint, then two additional coats of a Bona Sport finish, with gamelines applied after the first finish coat.

Bona states, in Bona SuperSport ONE Technical Data Sheet, printed 2026-04-28, accessed 2026-10-04: SuperSport ONE is four coats: one or two coats of a Bona Sport sealer, CourtLines or SuperSport Paint, and two coats of ONE. Recommended conditions are 65-80 F and 40-60% RH, and ONE is not to be applied to raw wood or to a floor surface below 50 F (10 C).

Bona states, in Bona SuperSport MVP Technical Data Sheet, printed 2026-03-31, accessed 2026-10-04: SuperSport MVP is a four-coat system, with 65-80 F and 40-60% RH recommended, not for raw wood or surfaces below 50 F.

Bona states, in Technical Data Sheet Bona SuperSport ELITE (distributor-hosted copy of Bona TDS), Rev 4/2024, accessed 2026-10-04: SuperSport ELITE is a four-coat system: one or two coats of a Bona Sport sealer, CourtLines or SuperSport Paint, and two coats of ELITE, with 65-80 F and 40-60% RH recommended.

Bona states, in Technical Data Sheet Bona SuperSport ClearSeal (distributor-hosted copy), 1/2024, accessed 2026-10-04: for SuperSport ClearSeal, if portions of the floor are stained, allow Bona DriFast stain to dry 24 hours before coating with ClearSeal. ClearSeal is a four-coat system.

Bona states, in DriFast Stain Technical data sheet (distributor-hosted copy), Rev 03/13, accessed 2026-10-04: DriFast Stain is an oil-modified stain applied only over bare wood, dry in 2 h for wood tones and a minimum of 6 h for White (60-80 F, 35-75% RH), with the sealer or finish applied after the dry time but within 48 hours. Any Bona finish system may follow thoroughly dried stain.

Bona DriFast Sport Seal and SuperSport ELITE (unresolved)

Two Bona data sheets with different revision dates read differently on DriFast Sport Seal. Both texts stay exactly as published. This guide does not decide which applies; the difference is unresolved.

Hillyard

Hillyard states, in Hillyard sports floor layout and lining guide, (c) 2011 printed in the footer, accessed 2026-10-04: the Trophy and Gold Medalist sequence is a thin coat of seal, overnight drying and abrading, a second coat of seal, overnight drying and abrading, then game lines with Hillyard-approved gym line marking paint, overnight drying of the paint, abrading the whole floor with maroon pads and tacking, then a thin coat of finish, overnight drying and abrading, and a final coat of finish. For the masking-tape method it names 3/4 inch or 1 inch masking tape, one hour for paint to set before lifting the tape, and a minimum of 24 hours of paint drying before abrading and finishing.

Berger-Seidle

Berger-Seidle states, in Technical Data Sheet AquaChoice SPORT B COLOR LinePaint (German-language TDS), Stand 07/2026, accessed 2026-10-04: the sequence is one coat of AquaChoice SealUp, one coat of Sport B Two, thorough abrading with 180 grit and vacuuming, LinePaint (a second coat when the first feels dry), 24 h of drying, abrading with a maroon pad and vacuuming, then 1-2 coats of Sport B Two.

Berger-Seidle AquaSeal GreenStar: cure time and time before traffic (unresolved)

The GreenStar data sheets print a cure figure in one place and a different figure for traffic in another. Both texts stay exactly as published, with each sheet's date of issue. This guide does not choose between them; the conflict is unresolved.

Basic Coatings

Basic Coatings states, in GameDay Sealer - Technical Data, 01.2026, accessed 2026-10-04: for new or newly sanded floors, apply 1-2 coats of GameDay Sealer and then 2 coats of an approved Basic Coatings waterbased finish. Abrade between coats with 180-240 grit if debris is present or more than 24 h have elapsed. Stains must be compatible and fully dry, and an adhesion test is required.
